• William was born in 1104 in Oswestry, Shropshire, England.

• William was Lord of Oswestry. He served as a Marcher Lord and had landholdings in Shropshire, Norfolk, and Sussex. He took the side of the Empress Matilda during the Anarchy and incurred considerable hardship before regaining his lands. His castle was defeated by King Stephen in 1138.
• William served as High Sheriff of Shropshire. He was a large benefactor of Haughmond Abbey.
• William died in April of 1160 (56 year old) and is buried at Shrewsbury Abbey.
