27th Generation: John FitzAlan

  • John was born 1223 in Oswestry, Shropshire, England.
  • He married Maud de Verdun, and they had two children together: John and Joan.
  • John was the 6th Earl of Arundel. He was the feudal lord of Clun and Oswestry in Welsh marshes. He served as a Marcher Lord. After the death of his uncle, he inherited the title and Castle. He survived the English defeat by the Welsh at Cymerau.
  • He was a key commander in the Welsh Marshes. He fought for Henry III against the Barons and was captured at the Battle of Lewes in 1264.
  • John died in 1267 (44 years old) at Arundel Castle, Sussex, England. He is buried at Haughmond Abbey in Shropshire.

27th Generation: Maud de Verdun

  • Maud was the daughter of Theobald le Botiller and Rohese de Verdun.
  • Maud married John, and they had two children together:
    • John FitzAlan (who we are descended from) (1246-1272)
    • Joan FitzAlan (1267-1316) She was the wife of Sir Richard of Cornwall, the illegitimate son of Richard of England.
  • Maud died in an unknown year and place.
