21st Generation: Gerald FitzMaurice FitzGerald
- Gerald was born 1335 in Ireland.
- He married Lady Eleanor Butler, and they had six children together: John, Maurice, James, Robert, Joan, and Catherine.
- Gerald was nicknamed “Gerald the Poet.” Some of his poems still exist in old books today. He was a nobleman known for his cheeriness and charitable deeds and for writing Irish poetry.
- Gerald was brought to England as a hostage to ensure his father’s good behavior and only released after his father’s death.
- He succeeded the Earldom when his brother died without heirs. He became the 3rd Earl of Desmond.
- He was give large estates in Munster by Edward III that required him to marry Eleanor Butler. It was hoping that this marriage would bring peace to Ormond, but it never did.
- George disappeared mysteriously in 1398 (63 years old) in Ireland. It is said he is “Asleep” under Lough Gur ( a body of water) and will waken to rule again someday.
21st Generation: Lady Eleanor Butler
- Eleanor was born in Ireland.
- She was the daughter of James Butler, 2nd Earl of Ormond.
- She married Gerald and had six children together:
- John (?-?) He died before his father.
- Maurice (?-1359) 2nd Earl of Desmond
- James (?-1462) (we are descended from him)
- Robert (?-?)
- Joan (?-?)
- Catherine (?-?)
- Eleanor died in Ireland in 1404.
