26th Generation: Thomas FitzMaurice FitzGerald

• Thomas was born in 1175.
• He married Elinor de Marisco and they had one son, John.
• Thomas was the Lord of O’Connelloe. He was granted lands by Richard de Clare for his service in the Norman invasion of Ireland. In 1210, he was part of an invasion headed by Geoffrey de Marisco (his brother-in-law) of Anglo-Norman troops to force the Irish King of Connacht into negotiations with the Justiciar of Ireland.
• Thomas built Shanid Castle. It was destroyed in 1641 and is in ruins. Picture is in the link below.
