32nd Generation: Richard de Reviers (Vernon)

  • Richard was born in 1045 in Vernon Castle, Normandy.
  • He married Adelise Peverel, and they had four children together: William, Hawise, Baldwin, and Guillaume.
  • Richard fought at the Battle of Hastings with his brother, Walter, for William the Conqueror. He was rewarded with lands in Cheshire and settled at Shipbrook, where he was made 1st Baron of Shipbrook.
  • Richard became an advisor to William’s son, Henry I. He aided Henry in the struggle against Robert Curthose for the throne.
  • Richard died on September 8, 1107, (62 years old) in Mosterton, Dorsetshire. At his death, he was one of the richest and powerful Barons in England. He is buried at the Abbey of Montebourg in Normandy, the Abbey he founded.
  • His sons took the name, Vernon, which was the ancestral seat of their family in Normandy.

32nd Generation: Adelise Peverel

  • Adelise was born in an unknown year. Her father, William Peverel, was rumoured to be the illegitimate son of William the Conqueror. William Peverel was a Norman Knight and was granted lands in England following the conquest by William.
  • She married Richard, and they had four children together:
    • William (who we are descended from) (1107-1174) (67 years old)

    • Baldwin de Reviers, First Earl of Devon
    • Guillaume de Vernon
