  • John was a military surgeon. He authored “The Surgeon’s Mate,” the standard text carried on military ships. He served as a surgeon in Lord Willowby’s Regiment that supported the protestant King of France, Henry IV. He later lived near Polonoa and Stade near Hamburg and served as a German interpreter for the English ambassadors. He made his fortune stocking medical chests for the East India Company.
  • John died on August 28, 1643, (74 years old) in London, England.
