• William was born in 1301 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
• He married Katherine Grandison, and they had eight children together: Elizabeth, William, John, Phillippa, Sibyl, Edmund, Agnes, and Alice (?)
• William was the 1st Earl of Salisbury, 3rd Baron of Montacute. He was a close companion of Prince Edward (Edward III).
• He was the main accomplice with the King in the overthrow of Roger Mortimer who acted as King’s protector.
• William fought in the Scottish wars and was given the Isle of Mann.
• He attended the King on 2 trips to meet with the King of France and also acted as an ambassador in a meeting with the Pope in Rome in 1331.
• William acted as governor of Sherbourne Castle in Dorset and of the Castle of Corfe. He was made the constable of the Tower of London in 1336.
• William was created as an Earl in 1337.
• He fought in the Hundred Years War and was captured by the French in 1340.
• He was considered to be the chief influencer of Edward III until his death.
• William died on January 30, 1344, (43 years old) at Bisham Manor, Berkshire. He died of his wounds that he suffered in a jousting tournament at Winder in 1344. He is buried at White Friars in London.

• Katherine was born in 1304 in Ashford, Middlesex, England.
• She was the daughter of William Grandison, 1st Baron Grandison, and Sibylla de Tregoz.
• Katherine married William, and they had eight children together:
  • Elizabeth (who we are descended from) (1327-1359)
  • William (1328-1397) 2nd Earl of Salisbury. One of the Founders of the Knights of the Order of the Garter
  • John (1330-1390) 1st Baron Montagu
  • Phillippa Mortimer (1332-1381) Wife of Roger Mortimer
  • Sibyl FitzAlan (?-?) married Edmund FitzAlan
  • Agnes Grey (?-?) Married John Grey
  • Alice (?-?) Married Ralph Daubeney (she might be his sister?)
• Katherine died on November 23, 1349, (45 years old) in Bisham Manor, Berkshire.
