*13th Generation: Col. John Washington

  • John was born in 1634 in Herefordshire, England.
  • He married Anne Pope on December 1, 1658, in Westmoreland, Virginia. They had eight children together: Anne, Lawrence, Richard, Henry, Mildred, Nathaniel, Priscilla, and John.
  • John was a planter and a soldier. He was apprenticed to a London merchant and learned about colonial trade. He then invested in a merchant and transported tobacco to Europe. On the trip, his ship foundered in the Potomac River. When it was fixed, he chose to stay in the colonies. He stayed with Nathaniel Pope, and married his daughter. He received his land as a gift.
  • John is also the Great Grandfather of George Washington!
  • John died in September of 1677 (43 years old) in Westmoreland, Virginia. He is buried in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

13th Generation: Anne Pope

  • Anne was born in 1635 in St. Mary’s, Maryland.
  • Anne was the daughter of Col. Nathaniel Pope and Lucy Ann Luce.
  • She married John on December 1, 1658, and they had eight children together:

    • Lawrence (who we are descended from) (1659-1699) (40 years old)
    • Richard (1660-?)
    • Henry (1660-1748) (88 years old)

  • Anne died in August 1667 in Westmoreland, Virginia.
