10th Generation: Col. Needham Bryant

  • Needham was born on October 31, 1726, at Snowfield Plantation in Bertie County, North Carolina.
  • He married Nancy Ann Smith on February 5, 1748, in Johnston, North Carolina. They had nine children together: Needham, Sally, Cecillia, Kedar, Winnefred, Frederick, Nancy, Charlotte, and Rigdon.
  • Needham was the commander of the Johnston County Militia that fought at the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge on February 27, 1776. He was a member of the Colonial Assembly from 1769-1775. Needham represented the First Provincial Congress in 1774. He introduced a bill to establish Smithfield as a town. A chapter of the DAR in AL is named for him.
